SUMMARY:Franz Nicolay
DESCRIPTION:We’re delighted to announce that Franz Nicolay—of The Hold Steady\, Against Me!\, Guignol and many more—will be playing an intimate show with us on Saturday 12th April. \nAfter his scheduled Ireland tour dates were unexpectedly cancelled\, Franz already had the flights booked… so we stepped in to offer him a stage. We love a story with a happy ending ? \nThis is a rare chance to catch a true punk-folk legend in an intimate setting. \n⸻ \nFranz Nicolay (@franznicolay) is a musician and writer living in New York’s Hudson Valley. In addition to records under his own name (“a natural-born star” —Pitchfork)\, he was a member of the cabaret-punk orchestra World/Inferno Friendship Society\, the “world’s best bar band” The Hold Steady (“one of the all-time great New York bands” —Rolling Stone)\, the Balkan-jazz quartet Guignol\, and co-founded the composer-performer collective Anti-Social Music. He was also a touring member of Against Me!\, and has recorded or performed with dozens of other acts. \nHis first book\, The Humorless Ladies of Border Control\, was named a “Season’s Best Travel Book” by The New York Times. His second\, Someone Should Pay For Your Pain\, was named one of Rolling Stone’s “Best Music Books of 2021\,” while his latest\, Band People\, made Rolling Stone’s 2024 list and was praised by The New Yorker as “one of the most honest” books ever written about the rock & roll life. \n“A natural-born star… really something special.” —Pitchfork \n“Sad\, wild folksongs… [an] unconventional multitalent.” —Rolling Stone \n“Punk-tinged raconteur… with disarmingly honest lyrics and a sense of musical adventurousness.” —The New Yorker
